A Solar System For Aberdaron
This is work comprises 10 horizontal flat glass 'boats' suspended from two oval steel rings. It was commissioned by Vaughan Owen for the National Trust, Porth Y Swnt, Henfaes Coastal Centre of Excellence, Aberdaron, North Wales.
The artwork is suspended above the Bardsey Island Lighthouse Optic in the room called 'Into The light' and evokes pilgrimage, spirituality and the special landscape and environment of the Llyn Peninsula.
The glass pieces are printed with colours, glass lenses and Dichroic glass roundels would be adhered to create plays with light. There is imagery (sea, sky, invented constellations) all derived from the landscape and locality. Imagery is screen printed onto the glass in mirror to reflect and play with light. With lighting, the lenses, colours and dichroic will come alive and cast light plays around the space and mirror what's happening in the space.
The largest 'boat' is 1000mm at its widest.
