Shared Memories

Commissioned by Kali Theatre I collaborated with lighting designer Prema Mehta to create a site specific new artwork at The Arcola Theatre in Dalston as a setting for a performance piece called Shared Memories.

Set against the East London winter backdrop of dusk falling, the installation combined a curtain of suspended mirrors, one side coated in holographic film and the other mirror and is lit using Light Emitting Diodes (LED) as they are effective in creating dynamic reflections and are energy efficient. The installation reflected the outside inside and also created a transforming effect with the projection of a rainbow spectrum of colour.

The inspiration for the project was memories. How we remember, what we remember and the nature of self-reflection. Prema and I wanted to make a space which represented remembering our stories by metaphors using hand-held mirrors, light and reflective materials. This changes the dynamics of the space and creates divergent moods within one space. It was an opportunity to make work that inspired and informed the performance and vice versa.

The installation was at The Arcola Theatre in Dalston and formed the setting for a performance piece called Shared Memories which ran over 5 nights.

The response was overwhelming, people were moved and delighted.
